LEARN MORE ABOUT DAWN:

  • My counseling philosophy centers on empowerment and choice. In this way, my approach to counseling is solution-focused. This means we will work to: build off the lessons learned from your past experiences, understand how past patterns influence your decision making and worldview, and discuss options for change that are authentic to you. Sometimes, when we feel alone, our decisions can almost feel impossible. We can get stuck on overthinking our actions and have a difficult time untangling our feelings. In our work together, we will find solutions forward and differentiate your authentic voice from others. This process is for you and about you. I believe that one of the most important things in life is how we balance change and acceptance. I'm here to help you along that journey.

I specialize in working with Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and Queer communities. I explore your goals within the framework of multiculturalism. I believe that sociopolitical issues impact wellbeing. I take into account racial identity and, if you’re part of the queer community, your sexual/gender identity and how that affects your life and relationships with others. I welcome working with topics related to sexuality, sexual fluidity, and trauma as it relates to sexual expression, affection, and intimacy.

My role is to help you find and achieve your goals. I’m here to facilitate an environment of self-awareness. As your counselor, we will work together to answer the tough questions you’re already asking yourself. It takes courage to get this far and I'm excited you've taken the first step.

  • In order to optimize the development of my professional counseling identity, I am required by the state accreditation board to receive clinical supervision from a licensed professional counselor. Dr. Monica P. Band, LPC (DC & VA), CRC, NCC, ACS, CCC, is serving as my sole and primary onsite supervisor for the duration of my residency.
