Telehealth

Telehealth or virtual therapy sessions can be a safe, convenient, and comfortable option.

At Mindful Healing, our healers are individually licensed across Washington D.C. and Virginia. Some of us are licensed by more then one state. Please reach out to them individually to determine if they can see you in the state you reside. If we are not able to help you personally, we will be sure to provide you with external referrals to mental health professionals who are licensed in the state(s) you are traveling to.

In the meantime, our profession continues to advocate for license portability in order to help those across state lines in which we are not licensed.

You will need access to a computer with audio and camera capabilities as well as high speed internet. You are able to use your smart phone with Simple Practice’s HIPAA compliant app to attend sessions as an alternative to using your computer. An automated unique secure link will be sent to your preferred email prior to each session.

Due to the sensitive nature of what we may discuss, it’s also important that you virtually meet me in a quiet space with little to no distractions or possibility of others interfering or interrupting.

Telehealth Sessions Outside

When the weather gets nicer, some clients may prefer to conduct their telehealth sessions outdoors, such as walking, meeting in their car, or sitting on a park bench or patio. If you choose this option, please be mindful of your surroundings and safety. It's important to note that we cannot guarantee confidentiality when you are in a public setting. External distractions and connectivity issues outside may also impact the quality of your session.

Additionally, as best practice, a safety measure, and to comply with insurance practices, we may ask you for details such as your location, car make/model, license plate, and nearby streets, parks, or landmarks.

By choosing to have your session outdoors or in a public setting other than the privacy of your home, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

Healers may have procedures, boundaries, and preferences for outdoor sessions based on their therapeutic approach and level of comfort. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask for clarification.

Fees and Procedures

Please consult your intake paperwork for detailed information about our policies and procedures. At the beginning of our collaboration, we will have a general discussion about specific policies and procedures related to telehealth. For instance, we will cover the procedures in case of internet connection loss or technical issues during a session, as well as the protocol if there are connection issues at the beginning of a session.

The fees for telehealth are the same as in-person session. For telehealth, most insurances charge a co-payment just like traditional appointments, and it most likely will be the same amount. To be sure, please contact your insurance provider directly and ask.

Telehealth FAQs for Clients from Simple Practice

Please Note: We are only allowed to practice telehealth with clients who are residents of the individual states we are licensed in. This means, if you are out of the country, relocating, or frequently traveling—we are not able to provide counseling unless you are in a state we are licensed in.
